It make not look like it
from what’s on television and in magazines, but life doesn’t have to be one
like an episode of My Kitchen Rules, where we have to race against the clock,
beat everyone else, get judged harshly by strangers and then crash in a
screaming heap totally exhausted!
Life can be pretty hectic
enough without having unrealistic expectations thrust upon us from the media,
saying how you should be the best mum on the street, the best cook, drive the
best car, be the healthiest, be the slimmest and the best wife all at the same
time.
I say forget all that;
just keep life simple and ignore other people's expectations of you. Embrace your
curves, cook with love, dance in the garden, talk to the fairies, use yourchild’s crayons to draw your own pictures and open your heart. Even Facebookthose small achievements, like parallel parking the 7 seater family bus in one swiftmotion while the shopkeepers look on in amazement!
But most importantly, be
gentle on yourself. Watch out for the negative self talk, ignore people telling
you that you ‘should do this or should do that’ and say no occasionally. Don’t
be afraid to ask for help either. There’s no such thing as Super Mum, there’s
only happy mum and you’re the only one who can make you happy.
Take the competition out
of life, run your own race, live your own life and love your own way. I have a
sneaking suspicion that the people, who really try hard to be better than
everyone else, secretly admire the ‘weird’ mum that drops their kids off at
school in an old Kombie, wearing pink overalls and always has a big smile on
her face.
So be brave, be happy your
way.
